LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL

The German poet and playwright Friedrich von Schiller (1759–1805) declared to the effect that the strongest of all are those who are strong when they stand alone 1 .

Comparatively, it's as if we're sitting alone in a dark tunnel typing, facing our computer screens with the task of bravely putting our thoughts into space.
Standing alone.

This week 9, as we put the finishing touches to our papers, let's show appreciation for professor Vinson and all of our previous teachers, by doing our best theses last two weeks.

There is light at the end of the tunnel and on the other side lies a field of green waiting to welcome us as we continue on our educational journey.

Particularly, thank you to all who participated in the peer review process and for acting as mirrors to one another.

Sometimes, facing ourselves is the most difficult of tasks however, once the reflective work is done growth can continue.

Incidentally, for anyone who's interested, I'll be keeping this blog.
I'll be making weekly entries of my journey toward becoming an MD right here. I'm not sure if I'll keep the phrase "Passe Avaunt," because there's another word I recently discovered that's more in line with what I must posses to get through it all over the next 6 to 7 years.
I'll make a decision in time.

Additionally, I have one other paper due at the end of week 9 for A&P (HS130-01-H).
Next term I'll be taking "diseases of the body" and "statistics."

Since we are editing this week, here's the edited version of Thursday's publication.

Writing is the key to the gateway of education, leading to the path of success.

Watching Wimbledon tennis these last few days, I've had the opportunity to see true champions in action.

However, there were some big upsets this year, as top ranked players were eliminated very early in the competition, by much lower ranking players.

So...what did I learn thus far?

I learned that in order to beat a champion, to become a champion, you have to fight for each point at each moment, as a champion.

Additionally, keep your composure, play your best game as if it were your last, use all the skills accumulated during this lifetime and never sell yourself short.

Life is similar to a tennis match, yet vitally volatile, more complicated and sometimes much more painful.

Perseverance is the gateway to success in whatever we do.

When our hearts blaze with the spirit of achieving our educational goals, we can write our own futures and vanquish discouragement. The moment we determine to win, we have won!

Great achievements...none of this will be easy, the heat will be on.
However, as legendary Japanese sage Nichiren Daishonin said:

"The flaws in iron come to the surface when it is forged.
Put into flames, a rock simply turns to ashes, but gold becomes pure gold."

These last couple of weeks, let's determine to be golden...determine to be gold!

BIRTHDAY 50

50 years of life on this day.
I give thanks to my parents for meeting and deciding to raise me well.
I owe them a debt of gratitude that I will repay through my actions and by becoming a person of wisdom, courage and compassion.

Another week has past as we melt into unit 7.
I want to to create value through my writing and help others see the value in theirs.
This unit, we have a chance to show the world our talents through the peer review elevation process.

A wise woman once said "the writing process requires thought, effort and time" (Vinson 2010). How true.
I've enjoyed learning from many of you this term.
Watching skills elevate over the weeks has been encouraging.
Through application of thought, effort, and time, I'm confident we will develop great pieces of work which will give us access to experiencing out true talents.

I look forward to the peer review process this week, although we may not get to see all of each others work due to limited space.
However, over the next 2 weeks we can reach out to each other in the blogesphere for an exchange if need be.

It's great to see we are all winning in writing.

It takes courage and integrity to expose our thoughts on paper as we learn this art

of self expression.

When writing, there may be times when we feel we are in a long dark tunnel

however, as long as we continue, key stroke by key stroke, we will emerge to be greeted by a

beautiful landscape.

A new beginning is near as Week 7 develops in our lives.

Now is the time to put forth our

greatest efforts to create a solid foundation, with a great rough draft, greeting week 7

with confidence and a smile.

These next few days, lets summon up the determination to win.

Student to Student IDEAEX

Hi everybody this is a column dedicated to sharing the experiences of being a student in cyber space.
This is my 3rd term at Kaplan University.
This is also the farthest I've gone in higher education so everyday is another victory me.
My history with school was simply to get in, get out, and be done with it.
That attitude yielded F's, C's, and D's most of my scholastic life, don't get me wrong I had my highlights here and there but grade wise the letter "A" was not something that crossed my mind.

Well it's week 5, we're half way full to the top of the end of the term, and the letter "A" is all that I've received these past few months
I made the presidents list and I am now an honors student!
Go figure!
My family is speechless, after all I put them through.
The only honor I received was the discharge from the Navy.

I've taken what I've learned from the business world and have learned to modify and apply those skills to school.
I owe a large portion of my success at Kaplan to my wife who has 2 degrees from Columbia University
Who graduated Phi beta Kappa
suma com laude (I'll get the spelling later)
and is now reaching for her PhD here at The University of Cambridge.
I use to tease her about being "Institutionalized" in the university realm
however,
Now I am institutionalized and lovin it!

The truth is, I've changed.
So far I've written over 10 papers with A's on all of them.
Not bragging just sharing a highlight of my life.
So stay with me on this.
I think I'm onto something, or on something, one or the other.
Cyberskool is cool, but the white screen can be a lonely scary space when the flow is slow...so
with that said.
Tomorrow I will share a tip or two to help see you through.
Since I am here to learn,
I also take tips.
